Sonus faber Lumina II Bookshelf Speakers

Room-filling sound, still easy to live with. Lumina II is the larger bookshelf speaker in the Lumina family, adding cabinet volume and a 150 mm midwoofer while remaining compact enough for real-world rooms. It is a natural step up from Lumina I when you want more bass weight, greater scale and a little more ease without moving to a floorstanding speaker.

Lumina II is a 2-way vented design built around Sonus faber’s 29 mm DAD soft-dome tweeter and a 150 mm paper-cone midwoofer. The larger midwoofer gives voices and instruments more body while extending usable bass response to 55 Hz. The 1,800 Hz crossover keeps the transition between drivers smooth and coherent, with the speaker rated at 86 dB sensitivity and a nominal 4-ohm impedance.

Sonus faber recommends 30 to 150 watts of clean amplifier power. In practice, Lumina II rewards a capable integrated amplifier with good current delivery rather than simply chasing a high wattage number.

Flexible Placement

The reflex port is positioned on the front of the cabinet, making Lumina II less sensitive to the distance from the wall behind it than many rear-ported bookshelf speakers. That makes it easier to use on proper stands, a console or shelving where space is limited. Two pairs of nickel-plated binding posts also allow conventional wiring, bi-wiring or bi-amping.

Italian Materials, Clean Proportions

Lumina II keeps the simple squared form of the collection while using materials closely associated with Sonus faber. The front baffle is multilayer wood, while the sides and top are hand-covered in black leather. Choose Black, Wenge or Walnut; the wood finishes use maple inlays, while Black gives the speaker a more understated contemporary look.

For a dedicated 2-channel system, Lumina II is especially well suited to small and mid-sized rooms. It can also serve as a high-quality surround or rear-channel speaker in a matching Lumina home theater system.
