Sonus faber Lumina I Bookshelf Speakers

Compact in size, unmistakably Sonus faber in sound and finish. Lumina I is the smallest loudspeaker in the Lumina family, but it carries the same priorities that define the collection: natural materials, careful Italian construction and a musical presentation that feels far more substantial than its dimensions suggest. Built in Vicenza, Italy, it is an easy fit for smaller listening rooms, secondary systems and spaces where a full-size loudspeaker simply does not make sense.

Small Cabinet, Serious Engineering

Lumina I is a 2-way vented design built around Sonus faber’s 29 mm DAD soft-dome tweeter and a 120 mm paper-cone midwoofer. The DAD tweeter uses a hand-coated soft-silk diaphragm and is designed to keep the top end open and detailed without becoming hard or aggressive. The midwoofer uses cellulose pulp blended with natural fibers, giving voices and instruments the kind of texture and tonal weight that make small speakers enjoyable for long listening sessions.

The crossover is set at 2,000 Hz, integrating the two drivers into a compact system rated from 65 Hz to 24 kHz. Sensitivity is 84 dB with a nominal 4-ohm impedance, so Lumina I benefits from a capable amplifier rather than raw wattage alone. Sonus faber recommends 30 to 100 watts of clean power.

Easier to Place Than You Might Expect

The reflex port is located on the front of the cabinet, making Lumina I less dependent on generous space behind the speaker than many rear-ported bookshelf designs. That gives you more freedom to use it on a proper stand, a console or shelving where room is limited. Rubber decoupling pads are built into the design, and two pairs of binding posts allow conventional wiring, bi-wiring or bi-amping.

For a dedicated 2-channel system, Lumina I makes particular sense when space matters but sound quality still comes first. It can also be used as part of a matching Lumina multichannel system, giving you the same design language and tonal character throughout the room.

Italian Materials Without the Excess

The cabinet keeps the squared, minimalist shape of the Lumina series while using materials closely associated with Sonus faber. The front baffle is multilayer wood, while the sides and top are wrapped in black leather. Choose Black, Wenge or Walnut; the wood finishes bring a warmer, furniture-like character, while Black keeps the look understated and modern.
